MG MGB Technical - PLastic Breather - Gearbox Extension

I need to remove the plastic breather from my gearbox remote shift extension and need to know if the breather pushes straight out or screws out.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I believe it's the same as the axle breather.

The cap pulls off, then the tube unscrews from the gearbox.

Thanks so much Dave - just what I needed. I removed it and it is just like the axle breather - as you mention.

Thanks again!

"I believe it's the same as the axle breather."

Yes it is - for the 4-cylinder gearbox anyway, 1H 3364. However from the Parts Catalogue the V8 gearbox is different for some reason with 21H 6060, although if you Google both numbers various suppliers show the V8 number for all three applications and for the MGA.

I know that the original MGA axle breathers were metal - somewhat similar in design - but from metal. I would have to double check the gearbox - I believe my A has a plastic breather on the MGA gearbox.

DLD-
The cap pulls off, and then the tube can be unscrewed from the gearbox. Unscrew it, and then spray-clean the breather cap and breather tube with carburetor cleaner. Carefully clean its 1/8"-28 BSP (British Standard Pipe Parallel) threads with an old soft toothbrush, and then reinstall it after it has dried. Be aware that after production of the MGB ended, a new, improved breather (British Leyland Part # 21H 6060) with an increased reservoir area and larger vent cap, but smaller orifice was introduced. This breather has a greatly reduced tendency to leakage.
