MG MGB Technical - Poly bushes

Anyone have any preference for Polybush or Superpro, or indeed any other poly bush?

I dont particularly like orange or yellow, preferring black, as they look more 'kosher'!

It is for a road car.

I've had previous yellow ones from MGOC but prefer the SuperFlex ones I've had now for the last nearly 10 years.

I'm not sure of their availability but they do universal ones so probably have of match ups and you could contact them for info.

Original poly bushes were colour coded for different hardnesses but now the trend seems to be prettyness

Problem is a lot of bush manufacturers swap colours around as part of their branding so colours can't be trusted

Colin, I used SuperPro bushes on my RB roadster when I rebuilt all the suspension and added a front ARB 5 years ago. I've been very pleased with them and they transformed the handling of the car.

Just following up on this thread, I got a set from Flo-Flex. They were cheap. Now we know why.

Big mistake. Waste of money.

Rear spring front bushes come without a sleeve. They have told me it doesnt need a sleeve! Been selling them for over 12 years and nobody has mentioned the bolt size is 7/16in and the hole 5/8in!!

Also the top wishbone bushes are not sleeved, but obviously made to fit the top arm. Except it is a piss fit!

The others are all usable.

Just thought I would let you guys know........

Colin, that sounds disappointing.

The polybushes I've bought in the recent past (from either MGBHive or Sussex MG) have all been purple in colour and come with correct sleeves, lubricant etc. Generally pleased, but one thing I did find was that the upper nearside fulcrum bushes I'd installed a year or two back with new fulcrum pin, when I tried more recently to dismantle, the pin had well and truly seized in the crush tube. To the extent I had to prise the shocker arms apart and angle grind the pin/tube out. Most odd.

That's a fizzer Colin-
Surely they would have to know that the spring and arm bushes you mentioned have to have sleeves fitted so the hardware can be tightened up properly----as you say disappointing
Peter
Having the sleeves rust themselves to the hardware is quite common, A smear of grease on the bolt during assembly is the way to go

Superflex. Hands down. They lathe the material for a perfect fit. Also, they use stainless steel tubes. Have had a set in my 67 GT for 10 years now and they look and feel like the day I installed them.

Because of the fit, they go together easy. No pounding or presses.

Yes, they are more expensive, but worth it.

It's a case of machined poly with SS sleeves V injection moulded.
To my mind the former gets the nod!!

Just to add to my comment about the seized fulcrum pin, the crush tube did appear to be stainless steel, and yes, Willy, I had greased it on assembly (the metal to metal bits). Even in the wet old UK this does seem a pretty short time over which to seize up!

Off at a tangent, one thing I've noticed is in other applications, such as bottom trunnion pivot and brake and clutch pedal pivots, the spacer can often end up as the bearing surface, rather than the bush itself ie the spacer seizes in the bush and the pin revolves in the spacer.
