MG MGB Technical - priming new panels
I have a new Steelcraft front valence to fit. Can I prime directly on top of the black factory applied coating (after it has been keyed) or does this need to be removed first? |

Hello Steve, Just do a light sanding to be shure it is perfect and proceed as you mentioned.. Cheers, Jean G. |

Thanks Jean, I think I may spray on some stonechip after the primer before I topcoat seeing as it is in a vunerable location. |

I've just fitted the same panel on my car Steve. I didn't remove the black primer - I think it is an etch primer, so is best left. I used stonechip before painting in colour top coat. Only time will tell how it stands up to use. |

Mike, What type of stonechip did you use? I have never used it before. I was thinking of Tetroshutz but I believe it's not overcoatable. |

Originally that was a shipping coating and could easily be removed with white spirit or cellulose thinners, but more recent panels have been impervious to that which makes me think it is a proper primer. |
