MG MGB Technical - Rea 1/4 window seals.

I'm trying to source main seals for my 67 MkI BGT. However the part number for these are both the same so there doesn't seem to be a means of distinguishing between the Left and Right sides.

This is listed as part AHH7413Z; a Furflex unit.

Does anyone have any tips on how to replace the glass seals (frame to glass and not frame to window aperature) on these rear 1/4 lights?

However http://britbits.nl/catalog/index.php?cPath=63955_57_60_668_160 shows AHH7413 as the RH seal and AHH7414 as the LH.

The Z suffix in your part number indicates a part from an alternative manufacturer, which may have opted to give you the job of cutting and mitreing hence only offers one number.

thanks for the reply. In your opinion is the Nylon (Black, KGA818/9) parts a better choice than the AHH7413Z furlex one?

My car uses rubber seals; they have lost their elasticity so won't stay in place in the upper edges of the window aperatures.

I have seen those plastic and rubber seals with spring wire embedded and it is the spring wire that keeps the seal attached to the flange. In time the steel rusts and weakens and that is when they start falling off. If the door seals are 'furry' it would be nice to stay the same. Nylon probably retains its appearance longer, but although the fur on door seals can get rubbed off getting in and out of the car that is less likely to happen on the rear window seals :o) As to nylon vs the original Furflex, it looks like Furflex was used up to 69, then Nylon after that. I'm a bit confused as to whether 'Nylon' means an alternative furry material or the hard 'plastic', my 73 has a hard plastic 'U' channel fitted over the flange with a rubber 'tube' on the side of that the door closes on to.

I recognise the material you indicate in the door seal; my car uses the same on my doors.

The 1/4 panel seals are completely different: they consist of a full rubber seal with no metal springs or nylon. I'm thinking now of repairing the ones I have as these don't seem to be available new.

I thought they used furflex door and quarterlight seals up to and including 1971 models. I got mine from MacGregor http://www.macgregorukcarparts.com He calls them "Bristleflex". They are slightly different construction between door seals and quarterlight seals.

At least in the US, the plastic-faced door seals started in '72.

FYI, If you go out to my webpage, http://www.cibolas7.net/27301.html , there is a picture there created from the actual OE weather seal that came off of my 68 GT when I restored it. Comparing those profiles with what we are offered today may be of some help in getting them to fit properly and not require you to force them shut, as some offerings do.
