MG MGB Technical - Rear axel / hub oil seal dimemsions

Hi, I have replaced the LHD hub oil seal about 3000 ks ago and it has started leaking again. Can anyone please give me the dimensions (in metric) for
ID , OD and thickness for a 1980 B roadster. I don't want to take them off the "failed" oil seal as these may be incorrect.
I would to get the replacement before starting the work hence the request for dimensions.

Many Thanks

The seal runs on a collar (AAA982) fitted round the half-shaft. If that is grooved or otherwise damaged a new seal may well leak.

The Parts Catalogue gives the seal number as GHS104, and Barney's site http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/suspensn/fs131.htm gives the dimensions of that as well as equivalents. You may well spot that page is for MGA and earlier front hubs, but that seal was apparently used on MGA axles as well.

In the past by patient Googling part numbers I have found seal dimensions from various generic sites, i.e. sites that cover seals rather than covering specifically MG.

If the half shaft bearing is giving up that will cause premature failure of the lip seal. The collars referred to by Paul, often get pitted as well as having a ring indentation. Check both before fitting a new seal.

Also check that the axle breather is clear. A blocked breather will cause internal pressure blowing oil past the seal. By the way I have, today, had to replace that seal after only 8000 miles!!

Thanks for the info and advice. The bearing was OK last year when we did the replacement with no play, the collar was free of defects plus the half shaft was without any visible or measureable wear. The car has only done 85000 Kms. Breather was and is still clear. Dif oil level is correct, a bit below the filler hole NOW! We will recheck all the items mentioned next week when we do the job.
Will try and get seals to the sizes as per the site.

Maybe I just was unlucky and got a dud oil seal.

Thanks again. Ray

"maybe I was just unlucky and got a dud seal".

Ray, you have to be really lucky to get a good anything made from, any form of, rubber!! My axle seal, as above, lasted less than 8000 miles.

I've just replaced the pinion oilseal on my (banjo) diff.

Fortunately, I had a NOS Rover seal from the '90s in stock. Judging by the markings, the manufacturer was the same as the original.

Job done and all seems well. No visible marks or any sign of wear/damage to the oil seal so looks like it was a dud. The collar and bearing are both fine.
Hope this one lasts a lot longer than 3000kms or 1 year.

Thanks for the advice and comments.
Cheers
