MG MGB Technical - rear axle oil seal replacement

I have a leaking oil seal on the rear hub and I want to replace it. It seems that I can draw the whole half shaft out replace the seal and put it back in, but a video I watched broke the whole bearing assembly down to do it. Has anyone any experience of this offer some advice please?

I should have said that its a 1966 MGB Banjo axle with wire wheels

You do need to remove the bearing from the hub in order to access the oil seal.

The hub nut *should* be very tight and can be difficult to undo, as it is octagonal.

Also, the bearing can be a tight fit on the axle and within the hub.

Theoretically a simple job, but can be awkward.

Hi Dave, thanks for your comment. I think this probably needs my mate who runs a garage and has pullers etc. Regards Jim

I forgot to mention, the left-hand hub nut has a left-hand thread.

I.e. the other way round to centre-lock hub spinners ...
