MG MGB Technical - Rear Bump Stop
The rear bump stop on the Right Hand side of the car (MGB GT) is missing leaving a rusty ring of metal How do I fit a new one? Clearly I will have to weld in the "spike" on which the bump stop fits. Advice and tips are very welcome. Where, in the UK is the best place to buy these items plus new road springs for a GT? |

It's not difficult to make the "spike", depends how handy you are. The rubbers are easily obtainable. I have a pair of R/B GT rear springs, OE items, I think, but re-set by Rossendale springs. Depends where in the UK you are. |

Fitting them can be a bit of a challenge, probably easiest to daub with Vaseline, put a block between the axle and the rubber, and jack the axle up to take the weight of the car on the block and the rubber to press it into place. |

Read this link, on how I did it. http://www.mgb-stuff.org.uk/saga20.htm Herb |

Ingenious, Herb. Although I refitted mine this evening by hand. Having said that, they are the originals. I don't know what new ones would be like. A small dab of silicone grease and they twisted right on. It helps to try and get one side of the button in first. ![]() |
