Plenty on this in the archives. My levels, measured from center of wheel to center of stainless body strip was Rear drivers (RHS in OZ) 13 13/16 Rear passenger 13 15/16 After I had raised rear end with longer shackles then Rear driver 14 7/16 Rear passenger 14 5/16 My local spring man told me he would set the springs to whatever level I wanted, but in the end he wanted too much of my limited resources (cash). Cheers Tony |

What measurements do you want? Free? Or loaded? http://www.mgb-stuff.org.uk/wn_suspensionframe.htm has both, click on 'Ride height' and 'Spring Specs'. But they are only half the equation, spring rate probably has more effect on eventual ride height than static measurements. The above site as loadings as well. |

Trevor, Let me know where you are going to have your car springs done in SA. I need to check and may have mine done as well as they are guite noisy. I have a 66 CB MGB. Richard. |

I replaced the rear springs for my 66 GT (Chrome Bumper) nine years ago because the rear end were sagging. At that time I noted the height of the onloaded springs (dimension 'B' in Pauls website)for both old and new springs. The measurements were as follows: Right side: Old: 195 mm New: 230 mm Left side: Old: 200 mm New: 225 mm The new springs has proven to be a lasting solution. |

T Burnett - the springs are certainly the same length if you follow the curve as they have to fit the same space. Unfortunately I don't have the unloaded measurements for an un- or little used chrome bumper rear spring. To be honest I don't think the measurements of current stock new springs would be much use to you, most seem to be way too arched and/or stiff such that they have to load up the boot with fat friends or bags of cement in order to get enough weight into the body so that when you jack up under the spring they straighten out enough for you to get the rebound strap and rear shackle fastened. You should be able to do this simply with the weight of the standard car, as long as it has engine, gearbox etc. installed. |
