MG MGB Technical - Removing wax and polish prior to painting?
Hi, I want to sand some paint down prior to over-painting. Apart from an isolator coat what is the best method to ensure that all the wax and polish is taken out of the older paint? Ta, Iwan |

You certainly need some specialist preparation to remove silicone polishes, wet and dry is no good as that leaves embedded specs that cause fish-eye in the finished article. Google 'fisheye in paint'. |

First, an isolator coat is used to prevent paint layers reacting with one another. Second, go to a paint shop, they will sell a panel wipe solution to neutralise and remove silicone residue. |

Dupont Prep-Sol 3919S always worked great for me. |

Iwan For the UK you might look for Dow Corning OS-2 Silicone Cleaner Wurth Clean Solve Pre-Kleano Note. None of these will totally remove silicon waz to 100%. I recommend washing the car thoroughly with one of the above prior to sanding and then again before painting. Even with this. fisheye may still be an issue. I always add a fisheye remover to my paint. This is what I use, but any paint shop should have a comparable product. http://www.eastwood.com/fish-eye-eliminator-pint-eastwood.html?srccode=ga220010&gclid=CPn-nLqqm74CFUNqOgodSmQAHw |
