MG MGB Technical - Replacing U bolts on banjo axle
Hi all, I am going to change the U bolts on the rear axle on my 65 B roadster tonight. Is it as simple as relace one at a time or is the axle liable to shift when i remove one? I will ahve the car supported by but not on jacks. Are there any other pit falls I should be aware of? Thanks Chris |

Shouldn't have any problems Chris if you support the body and let the axle sit on the spring when you remove the U bolts. Retorque nuts to 20ft/lbs |

Did this on my ´63 a couple of years ago, and if I remember correctly the axle is fixed in its position on the spring by the end of the bolt going through the spring leaves. No problem. Tore |

Thanks, always best to ask if there is anything to watch out for! Heading off in 30 mins to fit bolts! Interest you in the Aberdeen MGOC day at Alford Iain? (august 16th) |

Dam, never goes smoothly, I never thought to order the bump stop pedestals and when I take the old ones out, i find they are worn through. Order a pair of those tomrrow Chris |

Chris, I attended the MGOC day in Alford for many years and quite frankly became a bit embarassed. It turned out to be taking the trophy, coming back the next year to return it only to pick it up again. Eventually after about six years I gave it up. You never know though I just might come back again. Iain |
