MG MGB Technical - RHD to LHD conversion MGA 1500

Hi MG Enthusiasts,

I would like to convert my MGA 1500 from Right hand to Left hand. Where can I get the necessary parts?
If someone did the opposite conversion and has the required parts please contact.
Is this a serious job? Of course I can imagine theoretical the amount of work, but are there problems to be expected?

Thank you for each kind of help.

Patrick - You would probably got a more authoritative answer from the people on MGA BBS. Cheers - Dave

your parts are work a lot of money in the uk so dont do straight swaps for the steering rack and dashboard which are worth the money.

you will find lots of breakers in uk with left hand drive parts so ring BOB WEST +44(0)1977 703828 first who in uk is the man for mga.

Thank you David and Ste,
have postet the same enquiry also at the MGA board. Ste, do you know about the amount of work.
I assume also that someone in UK has the parts I need... :-).
But still the question if this conversion is not to difficult for a non pro like me.
Thanks Patrick

I'd be willing to generously pay you a few hundred for your old rack and dash ;).
Actually the RHD steering racks are not made, so are worth allot of money, about $1500, when you can get them. The LHD racks can be bought new, so are worth allot less. In other words the sale of the RHD rack and dash on ebay should easily cover a new LHD rack and dash, and then some. Anyone wanting to import an MGA from the USA wants one.

Patrick the question must be asked! Why would you take a rather rare car and turn it in to a manhandled, easy to find car? I bet with a little homework you could take a trip to England with your RH car and trade it for a better LH car with a cash kicker to boot.
Just a thought. RIC
