MG MGB Technical - Rocker stand with offset oil hole
Having a CAM 1106 head rebuilt for my 72 bgt. Plan to use my three old rocker stands and purchase the rear stand which has the offset oil hole to match the head. Is this advisable or must all four rocker stands be replaced as a set? Concerned about the correct bore alignment for the rocker shaft. Thanks, Tom |

Just changing the rear is ok, the others do not have to be changed. Clifton |

That would be my advice also. The shaft does not rotate so precise alignment is not needed. As I remember there are shims for the middle two pedestals. They need to be installed although I don't remember exactly what they do. |

They put a slight bending force on the rocker shaft to stop it twisting with the rockers, which wears the pedestals. |

Paul, why did they do this? Is there an inherrant design problem? I do not know of another manufacturer who had to do this. Colin |

Colin, with higher engine speeds the shaft starts oscylating in the pedestrials and wears. For this reason the second and third pedestrial is packed with a shim to give it some preload. Ralph |

Must have been significant as it was recommended as a retro-fit to earlier engines when having other work done. |
