MG MGB Technical - Rubber bumper refurb
What products has anyone found for sparkling up the rubber bumpers? Colin |

Auto'Gym do a wonderful black vinyl and rubber cleaner. It's brought mine up a treat. Andrew |

Black cream shoe polish did a great job on mine. |

I used an angle grinder on mine but then again I was removing them completely! If you have a dark coloured car some people have had good results painting them body colour. Obviously not stock but the effect can be nice. |

I've also heard of shoe polish, but judging how much rubbed off on our carpets from a visitor's shoes one day I wouldn't let your better half go up against them with her best cream trousers or skirt. I'd also recommend against ArmorAll. Whilst with a lot of effort and application it can bring them up nicely, it doesn't last, and the surface seems to go chalky unless you keep doing it. I've had very good results with Turtle Black Chrome - moments to apply and buff-up, lasts ages, and doesn't rub off. Slip sheets of paper between the bumper and the body though, unless you have/want black paint! |

Perhaps your visitor used spit and polish before they visited you Paul. Must have been the brand of cream shoe polish I used, doesn't rub off at all. I only used it once to refurbish the finish. I use Turtle Wax Platinum instead of Armor All on all the black bits and being a white RB, the black certainly stands out. I couldn't find Turtle Black Chrome here, perhaps its not available outside the UK. |

I'll second black boot polish, every bit as effective as the overpriced concoctions from the Autoshop. Ron |

I'm very clear the answer to a rubber bumper refurbishment is the fittment of chrome bumpers front and split tail rear! Cheerios, Vic |

Colin, Check out my website (themgdoc.com) and go to TECH ARTICLES / REPAIRING RUBBER BUMPERS. There is a bit of work involved but when finished, it does not come off like boot polish or have to be touched up with Armour All type products. John |
