MG MGB Technical - Rubber Bumper Tow Bar

Hi, Has anyone fitted a tow bar to their Rubber Bumper, I want to tow a car transporter for track days, but I want to use the MG as well as the track car.

I have removed one, although it was a long time ago.

There ought to be a few secondhand towbars around. I'm not sure how available they are new, these days.

I'm not sure it is a good idea to tow with an MG? I suppose something small and light might be ok, even my present road going car, ( a two door,. ) States towing not recommended. Mike

Lol Mike I tow bales of hay and haylage with a BGT and have a friend who has towed his MGA with his B I understand - and I've towed many a horse many a mile with various other cars. The simple rule of thumb is to have a good brake on the trailer so it's not relying on the towing car.

Sorry - don't know about rubber bumpers but towing with a chrome bumper one works ok and sits under nice and neatly so I can't see a problem for you to fix up a towbar. As of next year though they will be included in the MOT test, so I would advise getting it done properly.

Hi rachmacb, Sorry, I did not mean to sound like a wusss. The last time I was involved with any towing was when my old Chevrolet Camaro's starter died, so I got the wife to give me a tow home from Army barracks in Germany. What I forgot was that the power steering would be nil, and the power brakes would likewise be nil. The towing car was an Open Kadett GTE. There were hills involved! When we got home, my legs and arms ached and I was a touch pale. So I have a problem with towing cars! Mike

Thanks for the replies, after a bit of research, I found the MGOC do one for about £150, I was quoted about £250 to have one fitted (he said he had never done one before and he fancied the challenge).
But after more research I found the kerb weight of the track car was quite a lot heavier than the MG. So I will seek a solution elsewhere.

Lol Mike - didn't mean to imply but yeah that's funny :)!! Another good reason for not having a modern car :)

C,
I have a spare if you still want one
