MG MGB Technical - Scissor type folding frame

Dose anyone have the proper top lowering instructions for the black folding frame tops? I just switched to this on my 69 and want to make sure I don’t trash my new top.

Thanks

Well I found the factory instructions for lowering and storing the top. Not the greatest. Any recommendations?

If you just push back the roof/hood/top the corner windows will eventually crease then crack. However it took about year of everyday use for this to happen with me with a top that was (I'm guessing)about 2 years old when I bought the car. When I was folding back I would take a moment to make sure the plastic didn't get caught in the frame. I didn't have to get out of the driver seat to do this. It took about a minute. In cold weather I took a little more care.
You could try just un-clipping the studs which should take the stress out of the corners.
Every one starts out being extra careful then everyone gets impatient and just budgets for a new hood.
I had my new top made without the corner windows, like the RV8, which means that I can now unclip and throw it back , or pull it up in about 10 seconds. You can also get them to put in a zip out rear window, which is great on hot days. This cost me 150 pounds from

for a standard vinyl.

You'll have noticed that modern rag tops no longer have those corner windows.

Have a look at http://www.mgb-stuff.org.uk.wn_bodyframe.htm and click on 'Roadster hood/top'. I've been using this method for 17 years and both vinyl and plastic are still in very good condition.

Try this:

That'll do it!

Thanks Robert, although to get the menu strip and make it clickable

Hi Paul

The original link didn't work and looking at the syntax again, I can see that the (/) was missing between .uk and wn.

As I keep telling my wife, such a small thing can make all the difference!

Paul,
Thank you so much for the link. This is WAY easier than how I was doing it before.

Thanks
