MG MGB Technical - shims
rebuilding the head and rocker assembly on my 12h1326 head and it calls for shims on the two center rocker brackets on the 18GB series engine, what is the reason for them |

Isn't it so the rocker shaft is very slightly bent to stop it rotating or something like that? Chris or Peter or someone will know the proper answer I am sure! |

Pete, what is "it" that calls for these? |
Art Pearse |
I believe they are supposed to be there to impart a small amount of force on the rocker shaft so that it doesn't rattle and chafe in the bores of the support pillars. |

art it is the moss catalog |

They were added to alter engine to stop the rocker shaft twisting and fretting in the supports by in effect trying to put a slight bend on the shaft. It is also recommended they be retro-fitted to earlier engines (or any engines that don't have them), 'it' being the workshop manuals. |
