MG MGB Technical - Smaller track rod ends

Hi, my minator alloys have damaged the rubber boots on the track rod ends. They are OE so I will need to go with an aftermarket type. I've seen ones with grease nipples on, and I wondered if they were smaller. Anyone had this problem and solved it.
Thanks Chris Cummins

Brown and Gammons in Baldock sell small track rod ends for alloy wheels. Part No GSJ168A, I believe. Yours, Dave

Thanks for that Dave; Brown and Gammons are the only site I've seen that say they are for alloy wheels.

I think it's best to use their postal service and not get tempted by their new franchise.

Hi Chris,
I had the same problems with my track rod ends when I fitted Minitors. I eventually got the B & G ones but believe I found a QH number somewhere. I did have a thread on here a few months ago which documented it. The B & G ones sorted the problem.

I've fitted the smaller ones, supplied by Moss. The end is smaller, and are not so close to the wheel; but the the rubber gaitor bellows out and touches. The MOT inspector came close to failing it but because it had not rubbed through, he just advised me.
He knew a bit about classics, confessing he owned a Ford Consul. He said that I could fit a track rod end that had the grease nipple on or fit a smaller rubber boot.

Hi Chris,

Since the rubber quality of the rubber boots is very low in general - my latest pair lasted 500 km from new - I have been advised by a Healey Driver to give the Hyundai Dust Covers Part No. 56828-21010 a try.
I have not yet managed to install them, but from the look and feel I can already tell that they are a different breed.
Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Christoph
