MG MGB Technical - Smiths Gauge Gaskets
I just finished replacing my first gauge, not bad after 10 years. It appears that there are two rubber o-rings that fit on the gauge. One fits between the bezel and the glass and one between the gauge and the dash. Where can I find replacements for these? Moss didn’t sell them best I can tell. Thanks Todd |

Todd, There is a guy on E-bay that sells the gaskets for the gauge to the dash. They are a a rubber ring with a square cross section. I believe they are about $10 for a set of 4. Speedo, Tach, Gas, Temp all round. I couldn't find any gasket for the bezel to glass and my original gaskets were hard and falling apart. I went to the hardware store and bought a strip of closed cell foam (Black) about 1/8 of an inch thick. I cut strips long enough to go around the inside of the bezel about 1/4 inch wide. Once I put the bezel on the glass and carefully used the tabs to tighten the bezel down, I used an exacto knife to cut off the foam that stuck out between the glass and the bezel. No rattling or moisture problems in over 2 years now. |

I bought some off ebay, but they were round section o-rings, not square. |

I found some at a plumbing supply shop - a good one, not a hardware store. |

I just used rubber bands for the gauge to dash. |

I've used rubber o-rings of the appropriate size. Got 'em at an auto parts shop. |

You can buy cheap O ring kits, and make up what sizes you want, or buy any O rings that are the correct gauge but too big. Cut and glue with super-glue to fit your gauges. |

I seem to remember going with normal round section O-rings when I did my old GT. |

Try this site. http://www.nisonger.com/index.htm. They don't list their prices but it's worth a query. At one time Victoria British carried these gaskets and bezel rings but I haven't had their catalog for some time. I used vinyl tape and trimmed it to fit. Works pretty well but I'm sure the gaskets are better. Be careful of the small bend over tabs on the bezel. You don't want to break them off. |
