MG MGB Technical - Source for Overrider Bolts?

I'm looking for the carriage bolts that go through the rubber tip overriders and bolt on to the bumper support brackets. Moss/VB don't even list them, and I've tried several different industrial supply/fastener places here in town. Anyone know where I can get them? They are 3/8" NF x 3 & 3/4" long.

Thanks in advance!

Farm equipment repair shops usually have a great choice of carriage bolts.

So does Lowe's and Agent Orange (aka Home Depot), but they are all course thread. Cheers - Dave

When I put the new bumpers on my B (66)the bolts that came with it were not long enough to be able to "catch" the threads in the overiders. I went to Lowes and got some really long coarse thread and cut off the threads and re threaded them with fine threads and that worked out fine. It helped to have the taps and dies here to do that and I realize that not everyone has that option.

The problem is that they are not standard carriage bolts. I've looked at Home Despot and lots of other places. The heads are not a standard round head, but curved, and the squared off part is only flat on 2 sides, rounded on the other 2. I can modifiy a standard carriage bolt if I need to, I just thought it strange that the large parts suppliers didn't have them.

The earlier all-chrome overriders had a built-in bracket across them so they can use a standard type of bolt. Because of the need to twist the steel mounting strips of the rubber tips from the back, the bracket was eliminated, so this unique carriage-type bolt was used.

Here's an update. I talked to my parts guy's salesman at Moss. He went and grabbed an overrider from off the shelf. If you buy a new overrider, they come with the rubber tip and bolt already installed. These bolts are considered to be part of the overrider, and are not going to be sold separately. Since I have already had mine re-chromed, I put a nut on the end to protect the threads and carefully straightened them out blacksmith-style with a hammer, on the anvil part of a bench vise.
