MG MGB Technical - spray gun question

I'm considering spraying my car next year and have been given a Sharpe Platinum HVLP gun which I believe is well thought of. However it is fitted with a 1.1mm nozzle. Is this large enough? I don't think spares for this gun are available in the UK so getting a larger nozzle may be difficult. This gun has a low cfm figure so is better suited to my small compressor. I shall be spraying cellulose primer and top coat. Can anyone recommend any other low air usage HVLP guns?

I've just been looking at LVLP guns as well. Anyone have an opinion on these or used one?

The 1.1 is a little small, especially if you are going with single stage or BC/CC paint....It will spray "paint", but may be too light for clear coat....It would also be a little small for acrylic enamels....
Get the 1.3 set , with nozzle, and needle....Cost is about $60, but it will work better, IMHO....
The 1.1 is better suited for touch up situations.

I have the same gun, and really like it , because it uses so little air....
Be sure and carefully clean it , each time you use it.

Hi Ed. Maybe you could point me in the direction of a stockist. There are none in the UK so I will have to import from the States.
I shall be spraying cellulose top coat (solid colour) as well as primer. No clearcoat.
I'm still finding out about LVLP. Looks very interesting.

Bad news!....Talked to Sharpe, and they no longer make the Platinum gun....
I called one of their main suppliers, and the part numbers are no longer in their catalogue....
The part number for the 1.3 nozzle and needle, is #34928.
You might try spray gun suppliers in the U.K. and search for that number...
Meanwhile, looks like we both have collector's items!
Might also try ebay....

I did manage to track down a supplier on ebay, that carries parts for Platinum guns....
Here is the link to the page in their catalogue....
I noticed that the prices are much higher now , than originally thought (it has been several years)....
But at least you can possibly get them....
On this page, the needle and tip (nozzle), are shown as separate numbers....
Scroll down, on page 2, and you will find both.
Hope this helps.
