MG MGB Technical - Stage 3 head
As noted earlier my 1975 gt has a stage 3 head and I was unsure about the tappit clearance. I now understand from a previous owner that the engine has a standard cam; anyone know what the correct tappit setting should be? |

It would be ,015"standard. Sometimes a performance cam may be designed for a different clearance, but its the cam that dictates the clearance. Denis |

Thanks for that, I have been nervous of tightening it down too far and causing damage. Rod |

.015" measured cold. |

Anyone know why the previous owner might have wanted a stage 3 without a modified cam? Would the standard cam give enough lift to take advantage of the head? |

The standard cam is considered one of the better designs on the market. Hard to improve on and keep driveability also. RAY |

Fairly easy to change the head. Cams more involved. How sure are you it's a stage three, that's track day kit. |

Very sure it is a stage 3; have receipt for fitting by oselli. Any disadvantage with standard cam for road use? |
R E Merrall |
I am delighted with the Piper HR270 cam in my car. Peter Burgess actually recommended the HR285 but I felt for road use I would go for the less aggressive one and it has kept the nice easy idle and effortless torque from 1000 rpm that we love about the B series engine and miss out on it ripping up to the redline. |

I've been running the 285 cam for over twenty five years, along with a ported and polished head, and can attest to the performance increase and smooth idle as well. RAY |

x2 stan. i have 270 with Peter's Ecotune head. FYI Peter told me to set tappets at 16 inlet and 18 outlet. G |
