MG MGB Technical - Taking glass out of vent frame
My driver side vent has gotten foggy. Can anyone give me instructions for removing the glass from the vent? |

Once you have the 1/4 light out it's easy. Just apply pressure to both ends of the frame and with your third hand pull the glass out. The glass has a small cut out to clear the area around the handle/clip that secures it. I have never done this with the 1/4 light attached to the car but it maight be possible, also I have never tried with the hadle/clip in place but if it has to come out remove the handle/clip by tapping out the tapered pin. I supported mine with a wood block and filed the tip of a nail to make a drift. |

Getting the glass out isn't a problem. Getting the bugger to stay back in with new rubber can be tricky! The glass has a tendency to pop out unless you can clamp it in place for a while to get it to set into position. From memory you can leave the handle in place when doing this. I don't remember removing it anyway when I did the vents on my old GT! I did it with the quarter light off the car. Simon |

I saved and re-used the existing rubber seal. it was in good condition and I'm cheap. It all went back together without a problem |

Kent Supurb. Thanks much. That is exactly what I needed and why I posted. I am always impressed by the wealth of information this groub has at their fingertips. |

DK Still doesn't work, could you cut and paste the article to an email and send? |

Try http://www.mgexperience.net/article/vent-windows.html, found using David's instructions. If you can't see that there is something wrong with your browser. It's quite a long article with photos so not really suitable for posting here. |

Thanks everyone, and especially DK for emailing me the article. It's great info. Neither of my computers will bring up the url mg experience. As usual, someone always comes through, no matter what the problem is. James |
