MG MGB Technical - Throttle cable on 73 GT
Has anyone got a photo or can take a photo of where the throttle cable joins into the engine bay as mine is loose and I want to see if I'm missing a part or it just needs tightening. Thanks in advance. |

http://www.mgexp.com/phile/1/210293/2013-09-12_18.37.50.jpg This isn't my picture, but it shows the ally pedestal guide for the end of the outer to sit in where it passes through the footwell roof into the engine bay. This is located in the aperture in the inner wing/trumpet area alongside the pedal box. These can easily corrode and snap/crumble away. Replacing them is usually near impossible due to their positioning and the corrosion of the 2 panhead screws holding them in. Go on the Moss/Mgoc parts page and have a look if you need more clairty. Hope this helps. |

works fine for me Ricey, are you using one of these 'mobile devices' like I-pad/pop/ping, tablet, pill, phone things I can't find a decent and accurate photo by searching t'web so I suggest you wait for someone to put up a photo from their standard UK car the cable is clipped(?) to the top of pedal cover dome thingy you could of course invest in some books, paper copies or even electronic here one for originality - Original MGB by Anders Ditlev Clausager – http://books.google.co.uk/books/about/Original_MGB_C_V8_Compl.html?id=h2pqrXtZJZoC if I've already told you about this before sorry (and why are you too tight to buy it) as you only got some of the notes but I can't remember which ones |

Worked for me, too. Here's the pic from the link...

Thanks everyone so far but I need a picture of it at the other end not going from the accelator pedal. |

Try here http://www.mgb-stuff.org.uk/fueltext.htm#cable FWIW that link didn't work for me either, maybe the people it worked for are members. |
Paul Hunt |
no you don't have to be a member cos I aint I am using a proper full computer rather than one of the compromise things you carry around though |
Nigel Atkins |
It did work from my PC, but not from my Blackberry. |

Thanks everyone, I'm struggling to find the part and the issue with my cable. I have taken a picture hopefully someone will be able to point me in the right direction with resolving my issue.

Looks like the locating ferrule has parted company with the heat shield. You could try Araldite or soft solder. |
Allan Reeling |
or perhaps fit a stepped ferrule of you can get one of the right diameter or perhaps hollow threaded tube to go through the heat shield and lock on to it both sides how was the original part held to the heat shield originally |
Nigel Atkins |
The ferrule is held to the heat shield with a large Spire clip like this http://tinyurl.com/om7x96o albeit one with only three 'legs', as in the attached. Not a separately available part, according to the catalogue ![]() |
Paul Hunt |
Cheers all, typical it's always the part you can't get hold of. Any suggestions as to what to do? Is the Araldite or soft solder option that only one? |
MD Rice |
I'm not sure that is called a spire clip but don't know what it is called but I'd have thought you could buy that sort of fixing elsewhere or some thing that would do the same job Ricey don't give up at the first hurdle |
Nigel Atkins |
That was one of many images that came up when I googled 'spire clip', even though the majority slide onto a panel and accept a screw. http://www.flyingspares.com/shop/spire-clips-for-attaching-rubbers-to-bumper-spc2755.html |
Paul Hunt |
fair enough, I was only thinking of the squashed U shape that screws go through which seem a lot different to these grip type washer thingys should be some available some where as you see them used as fittings on other items |
Nigel Atkins |
So would that one that you have posted a link too work Paul? |
MD Rice |
MD - yes, if of the correct size. Also known as (more logically) 'starlock' washers or push-on fasteners. I've measured my ferrule at 0.248", which converts to 6.3mm. Consulting a table indicates a 6mm would be the correct size, seem to be plenty of options on Google. |

Cheers Paul. |
