MG MGB Technical - Torque values - 72 Roadster
Can anyone tell me what the torque setting should be for the 7 gearbox to engine backplate bolts? It would also be good to know where the three different lengths are used. i.e. 4 short, 1 intermediate and 2 long. |

Richard - send me your email address and I'll email you a pdf list of almost every torque setting for the B. |

CJ Carroll, Please would you send me this pdf list also; mike@quaysdentalpractice.com.au Thanks Mike |

Thanks Colin. richardcoombsnoe@btinternet.com |

PDF sent. I hope it's useful. From experience, I suggest tightening progressively to avoid stripping threads on old or aftermarket fasteners as quality control isn't always as good as it should be. |

Thanks again Colin. Looks like the gearbox to engine bolts are not listed. They're 5/16" UNC so I think 20ftlbs should be ok. |
Richard Coombs |
Agreed - 20 as for "front plate" and "rear plate". If everything is in good condition you should be able to go as high as 24 for both 5/16 and 3/8. Also, these are dry torques, lube changes them. |
