MG MGB Technical - Transmission mounts
I'm in the process of reinstalling my engine/transmission/overdrive in a 1979 MGB. I noticed that the pin mechanism which attaches to the transmission mounts and the crossmember had damaged rubber inserts. The came off easily due to the damage. I got new one. There is a small and large flange connected by a neck down. What I can't figure out is how to get the new bushing inserts to fit through the holes on the two metal halfs of the mount between the transmission mounts and the cross member. The Moss catelog shows the small ends facing each other. Any experience on getting these things in place or tricks of the trade. |

Metal parts in the vice, a touch of rubber grease ont he rubber flange which is to go through the hole, then with a medium sized but DULL screwdriver push and distort the rubber and work it into the hole. |

Michael, Excellent piece of information. I can tell my task will be a challenge. Thanks |

Dick,a few words of encouragement... I used the advice given on Paul's site. At first I was very apprehensive about drilling into the crossmemeber. But it worked a treat. It made the job much much easier when assembling all the parts. It was a joy tightning all the bolts in the proper way. And knowing that now the gearbox was fixed in place as it should be. /Moss |

Moss, Thanks, I've started the modifications on Pauls site and should be ready to put everything back in the car in the next day or two. Dick |

I was going to do the modification but found if I put one mount on the cross member and one on the transmission it went together with no difficulty at all. |
