MG MGB Technical - trunk lock
The trunk lock will not open with the key anymore ??? Is there a way to open the trunk without a crowbar ?? Thanks Bill |

Bill - I would try a penetrating oil or silicon spray on the lock and if that does not work - drill out the lock itself. HTH |

Hi Bill, I had the same problem on an 68 B. In the archives I found the answer. Force the tear drop lifting lug on the boot lock to rotate to one side and up almost against the chrome lock body directly under where the lifting lug was drill a 1/8 hole in the boot lid. I ground down a small screw driver to pass through this hole and push on the release mechanism the lock pushes on. After you have fixed the fault rotate the lifting lug back which hides the hole from plain sight. Check the archives for the exact method. My problem was from overfilling the boot causing distortion. After I got it open and emptied I never had a problem again. This problem is also in the archives. I now carry the ground down screw driver in the glove box. Good luck Ken |

If it's the latch and not the key, try applying pressure above the lock, about the centre of the curve. This should bow the hook latch away from the U catch in the boot. |

Thanks for your suggestions I finally got it open by having two of my friends push inward on the strip below the lid and it popped open when I pushed the button I hope this helps someone else. Bill |

John Twist has a marvellous YouTube video of how to release a jammed MGB trunk. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUA-OlW-nK0 After 4 minutes of struggling he has to admit defeat! Priceless. |
