MG MGB Technical - UK tool shops????
Help... Im over in London for a few days and was hoping to find a store which could supply me with a 1-5/16" socket for my rearaxle nuts. I tried HALFORDS but no luck. Can anyone (locals perhaps?) suggest where I could find one?? Many Thanks |

You could try Machine Mart (http://www.machinemart.co.uk/) or Frost (no where near London but could post to you, www.frost.co.uk). Alternatively you might have luck at one of the many small independant auto factors. Finally, you could try the specialists like the MG Owners Club or MGB Hive and get them to send to you whilst you're here. Cheers, Tim |

Innes - You might want to try The Eastwood Co at: http://www.eastwoodco.com in the US. I don't know if they ship overseas, but with the dollar being what it is nowdays, you could get a good price. If all else fails, e-mail me and I could pick up a socket and mail it to you. Cheers - Dave |

You can use 33mm socket instead, there is very little difference in size. |

I don't remember the price but I bought one at Northern Tool. It is 1 5/16, 3/4 inch drive. They also stock an adapter to reduce to 1/2 inch drive, if you need it. And, Yes, it is thin enough to get to the rear axle nuts on a wire wheel car. I don't know if they ship world-wide or not. I am lucky enough to have a local Northern store. Phone number in the US is 1-800-533-5545. Website and online catalog is at www.northerntool.com Mack |

It may be worth trying Ernest Doe, agricultural tool supplies etc. http://www.ernestdoe.com/storelocator.html They are all over eastern England.I have found them very good for large and unusual socket sizes. They sell Sealey tools and also sockets and handles in the very useful 3/4" size. |

I did get mine at Halfords although some years ago, 1/2" drive non-impact and it fits easily. Whatever you get, and if you have wire wheels, check the OD is less than 1.863", mine is 1.73". 3/4" drive and/or impact may well be too big as many say theirs is. |
