MG MGB Technical - Universtity Motors
I have just found out that University Motors are shutting up shop on 1 July. I was saddened to hear this, as I have always enjoyed John Twist's videos and found them very helpful. Does anybody know why they are closing? Paul |

Economy and personal reasons is bringint the demise of his repair shoppe service. Twist will be around in other formats...tech sessions and books; bench service; etc. |

He will be missed until his first book comes out |

John- Again, I feel compelled to salute you, your vast knowledge and your generous, kind spirit I have traveled cross continent twice to enjoy your special brand. Remember when you were retorguing Randal's (?) pristine B: extracting completely each stud, shooting the oil like Palidin: "Have gun, will Travel" and then rewrenching them. I have a cell phone snap shot of one near cardiac arrest in the background and another, slyly smiling as he finished in brief minutes: you always had a funny story to tell ( now you have another, eh?). Sincere wishes for health and happiness you and all your family. Did you know it hardly ever rains midcoast California, and usually MGB season is 4 seasons! With all my best wishes John, Cheers, Vic |

May as well hear it from the man himself. Here's a youtube clip of John on the reasons for the closure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CDrhFFEcUU |

Not sure what he means by 'the only LHD V8 prototype, all the others have gone'. BL brought them all back and all seven were in Europe in 1994. Quite possible one has crossed the Atlantic again, but highly unlikely that the other six have 'gone'. |

Paul...this particular LDH MGB/GT V8 has been owned by Lyle York for years. I first saw it at the UML Summer Party in Grand Rapids in 1985. It resides in Indiana. I am quite certain that it is the "real thing". I never knew where the other six were located...my guess was (as stated by you) that they returned to England. |

Correction. It was three of the seven *production* LHD cars that went to the USA for testing and were returned to the UK, it is those seven I was referring to as all being in Europe in 1994. The one in the USA is a *pre*-production model (the third one, car No. 98 counting down from 100) one of two LHD cars out of six in all. Neither of these LHD cars was taken to the USA by BL - officially at least, so Im presuming it was a personal import. Of the six pre-production cars only the whereabouts of the last one, car No. 95, was unknown in 1994. |

This page gives some history of the 11 known LHD V8 GTs that BL built: http://www.britishv8.org/Articles/MGBGTV8-LHD-Prototypes.htm |

John Twist will live again performing his roving tech sessions. We at the MG Car Club of Toronto will be hosting John for the 4th time in Toronto this October 10 & 11. He will enlighten 25 MG and LBC enthusiasts on things MGB. We are fortunate that John is continuing this part of his business and enabling some of us lucky ones to meet him once again. Cheers, Jon |

I've used John's vids to assist with some tricky work. I'll miss you John. I hope you know your help reached to New Zealand at the other side of the world. Good luck to you. Thank you sincerely. Ray |
