MG MGB Technical - Unusual engine number 18YRRC112686

Hello,
I'm looking at buying an MGA that has an MGB motor fitted. The engine number quoted is 18YRRC112686
The Y might be a typo, but the RRC seems odd as well.
I've had a look around ont he net and can't find a match. Thoroughly perplexed.

Is it possibly a marina motor? That weak caste crank and single timing chain would make this an unattractive proposition. My intention is to supercharge.

Funny numbers can be Marina or Sherpa, there used to be a web page on these but it is long gone. Being Oz though it could have been built or rebuilt locally, and be different again. Only earlier MGBs had double-row timing chain, indications are that the 18V had single.

Peter,

This might lead somewhere:

Alternatively, this site may have someone who can help:

Does the engine in question have the 1800 stamp on the block under the carbs? That will be a clue to whether it is likely to be from an MGB.

A friend of mine rebuilt his 1500 A engine on a new block imported from India through Queensland some years ago. He was required to stamp his own engine number for registration purposes. He used MGA, his initials then his phone number.

This might be a block with a similar background. Alternatively, an early MGB block with the engine number tag screwed to the block but lost in an acid bath somewhere along the way.

Good luck

Yep, spot on, sorry. Try this alternative;

Or this one:
