MG MGB Technical - Valve seats

Does anyone have the size specs for the exhaust valve seats for an MGB cylinder head?
JR Ross

JR, what is the casting no. or engine type?
Art Pearse

Looks like they were all 1.34" dia of the valve.
Art Pearse

Hey Art,

Thanks for the info. I also believed them to be the same size, but the head is presently at the machine shop, and the machinist couldn't find the specs, so I thought I'd ask.
Thanks again.
JR Ross

common workshop practice is to measure the valve and cut to that.

Ooops, that for a start, starts to question the machine shops capabilities! Mike

And their level of experience, to say the least.

They should know that all that they have to do is use a vernier caliper to measure the Inside and Outside Diameters of the seat face of the valve. The seating surface of the valve is 45 degrees (easily determined with common shop tools), and that being the case, the seat angle is the all-too-universal 45 1/2 degrees common to cast iron heads. Get your head back and find a shop that knows what they're doing.
