MG MGB Technical - Water pump: replace or go electric?

Hi guys,

My car has been sat for over a year due to lack of time to sort it out and sort the ignition problems. It's a 2099cc bore with a bit more grunt than normal.

Fired it up today with new ignition system, gave it some right foot and got banshee-like screams from the front. Guessing the water pump is on its way out due to standing for so long, so the options are to take it out and replace it with another, or put an electric pump on.

Replacement with another is relatively simple, but I fancy going electric for a few more broken horses. Something like a thermostatically controlled Davies Craig.

Has anyone got experience of an electric water pump conversion? If so, any hints and tips would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Grant

False economy in my opinion
The power has to come from somewhere to drive the electric pump ???

Grant-
Racers use electric coolant pumps that run off of a battery that is charged prior to the race so that they can free up some power by not having to run an alternator. As long as the battery lasts long enough to win the race, then good enough! However, for a street machine, an electric coolant pump is inefficient as it takes more mechanical power to run an alternator to recharge the battery that it would to run a mechanical coolant pump.

Slipping fan-belt? Expensive 'fix' if so.

All you gotta do is add a cold box to go like the wind to the stars. It makes the air fatter.

Come on Rob, I'm sorry about the issue. I will just get rid of that member, since they do have an unfair advantage on you, knowing all that technical stuff. How do you want to handle the banishment? The usual? Hope to see you soon.
