MG MGB Technical - Webasto Wind Deflector
Can anyone who has a Webasto advise me if a wind deflector is needed?
Is there a noticeable difference in wind noise and buffeting when one is deployed. Can you get the pulsing sensation, like I did on my daily driver when the aircon failed and I had to open a window, and it was unbearable. I have heard opening a rear window helps? I am in the process of arranging to view a BGT which does not have a deflector fitted and I do not think the hinges are readily available if one is highly desirable. |

Hi Mike, My BGT has a folding sunroof - it's made by britax rather than Webasto but very similar.
It has a deflector - a curved transparent one. I wouldn't say it is strictly necessary as I sometimes forget to raise it and don't notice a huge difference. The noise with the sunroof open is nothing like having the window down as you mention where you do notice buffeting, but with front windows down it is quite nice to have the rear windows pushed open to get an air flow through the car on our few hot days! The only thing I would say though, is that the deflector looks quite smart and does make a nice finish to the sunroof. Good luck with your car Neal |

Not needed on the MGB glass tilt and remove but it was very necessary on a tilt and slide on a Rover SD1. I've never driven the MGB with the rear windows open in 30 years! I can't remember now if it was the previous Golf or the current Mercedes A-Class both without sunroofs ('sunrooves'?) but driving with the rear windows open any amount generates terrible pulsing. |

Thanks both, sound like it is worth a look. It is a couple of hours away, and I did not want a wasted trip. I will have to test it at speed with the roof back, if it is not raining..... Mike |

Mike, I bought a Tudor Webasto from RS Coachbuilt, London not long before they closed down, around 2015. It's the original style ragtop that I (unfortunately) remember so well from the British cars of the early 70s,and was determined to fit to my 73 BGT. The Webasto looks superb and performs well- but I didn't invest in a deflector, and honestly I wouldn't bother now even if I could. There is no additional noise or buffeting- although I admit I have no amount of hair to worry about. Cheers, John. ![]() |

Hair! 35 years ago I bought a tweed cap for use in the roadster. Not for any reasons of 'style' but because at speed my hair was blown forwards and lashed my face which bordered on painful. That's not a problem now ... but sun on scalp is so I still wear a cap, and the peak does a better job than a sun visor would ... if the car them. |
