Hi Da- I now swear by the HR or PB Piper 285 and/or the 285/2 ( best available I think from Peter Burgess). Many say the idle is lumpy, but I idle at 750 without noticeable lumps on the 60 over x-flow. The 285 runs up past 6k without really trying too hard, the power comes on about 3300 and just keeps pulling till you chicken out. I believe Kent makes a similar lift/overlap/and duration, as does APT in numbers 11,12, and 13 as I recall. And all of them drive very well. Take a peek at Peter Burgess's "How to Power Tune an MGB" or Doug Jackson's website at MGAMGB.com. Cherrios. Vic |

My car runs an Oseli 270 on a 1950cc overbore , its fine and idles OK at either 700 or 850 RPM. I tend to keep at 850( the tacho overeads a bit so it shows 750 and 900 respectivley) now as the extra fan speed helps the engine temp in traffic and gives the batteries an easier tiime (I'm still using dynamo). Having seen the results of Peter Burgess' work on B series engines I would now follow his recomendation though. |

Go for the original Piper 282/2, not for a replica of it. For a street going MGB, there is nothing to compare with this grid when carefully set to the right timing. New followers and adequate valve springs must be used! |
