MG MGB Technical - WHICH WAY DOES THE ENGINE TURN

Which way does the engine turn...clock wise or counter clock wise. I am looking at the engine from the front and need to know which way to put the fan on.

Clockwise.

Which ever way you put the fan, the blades will look like they are the right way, but the profile is different.

Thanks for the information but I still need to know which way the engine turns so I can put the fan on correctly. This is a case of part-timers. Some things I remember and some I don't like which way the engine turns.
JEFF BECKER

Yes, it is clockwise.

Have a look at Paul Hunt's site for information on mechanical fans...

Hey Dave,
If I read the top of your remarks, I would have had my answer. Sorry for my trouble. Have a great week.
Thanks

Doesn't matter which way you put on it will always blow in the same direction, it's the angle of the blades and direction of rotation that determines air direction. They do have a leading edge and a trailing edge, and one way is marginally more efficient that the other, but it is only marginal.

But the biggest thing to look out for is the offset of the mounting plate, and whether you have a long-nose water pump, or a short-nose, and with the short-nose whether you have the fan spacer or not. Get the wrong combination and it will clatter the block, or chew the rad. More info in that link given earlier.

My fan was the wrong way round for years as it had the short-nose without the spacer. When I corrected that I didn't see any difference even in the hottest weather. What did make a noticeable difference was fitting the foam seal between radiator and mounting panel.
