MG MGB Technical - Windscreen washer tube route

Hello, still restoring a left-hand drive '72 BGT. What route does the windscreen washer tubing take from the washer pump to the jet nozzle?

Thanks, Tom

Forgot to ask which of the holes in the firewall is for the washer tube?

Thanks, Tom

Regardless of where the bottle was fitted they seem to go through the large-ish hole in the vertical firewall under the left-hand bonnet hinge. The pump seems to have ben attached to the carrier for the later large square bottles, I don't know where it was for the earler American round bottle, UK cars didn't get the electric washer until much later.

Thanks for the info, Paul. As usual, I didn't take enough photos when I disassembled the beast. I suspected the larger hole but it just seems too big for a small-diameter tube.

My 1970 GT has a round bottle screwed to the radiator panel and a couple of tapped holes in the right hand inner wing spaced exactly right for an electric pump. Neil

On my '70 BGT like Neil has the bottle on the radiator support in the front right with the pump mounted on the inner fender close by. The tube runs up and over the transmission on the front of the heater platform and into that large hole. It always makes me stop and wonder why they put it in that big hole ??? And I don't think I have ever seen a grommet in one. Should'nt there be one??

Neil and Mike, thanks for your comments. Yes, the washer pump is located on the inside of the RH wing. And I've managed to refurbish the pump motor, which wasn't working. It now pumps water! This is a small victory for me because I've never understood how electricity works. Mike, I agree, seems there should be a grommet in the big hole to keep out moisture. I will look for one or fabricate my own -- may not be original but it seems more practical.

There should be a grommet around the pipe in the *inner* skin of the bulkhead, which is a smaller hole, but there isn't in the outer.

On my 1974 MGB GT the washer line feeds up through the large round hole in the bulkhead right below the left hinge. From there it feeds up to the single washer head in the centre of the panel between the air intake and the windshield. This is a left hand drive NA car. The washer fluid in my car is in a "bag" on the right hand wheel well near the radiator and the pump is about half way back on the same side. Hope that helps.

Tom,

I purchased my 1970 roadster in 1988 here in California. It was very original and sold new in Modesto, California. The washer tube passes through the large hole beneath the left bonnet hinge as others describe above. If you have access to a copy of Original MGB by Clausager, look at the 1969 engine bay on page 63. Even though this is a right-hand drive example, the washer bottle location and tube route are exactly like my left-hand drive car.

My 1966 roadster has the bottle moounted on the shelf beside the heater. The tube goes from the bottle straight down through a grommet beside the bottle which goes into the passenger side footwell. Could someone tell me where it goes from there? How does it route to the pump? Thanks
D Enghauser

The tubing runs behind the upper dash area, behind the radio and into the manual push button pump. RAY
