MG MGB Technical - windshield bolts
I tried installing the windshield on the b with a couple of friends and i can get 1 front bolt but cant get the driver side down far enough. I was reading some where that there are pointed bolts making it easier to locate the holes. Some one had a part # for them and could be picked up at a napa store or auto store. Does anyone have the part no for the bolts? Any suggestions for the install? The bottom seal to cowl is down and the shield is tipped slightly forward to reach the front bolts. thanks for any help. The proper bolts from MG parts houses should have a point on them, you could try grinding a point on the ones you have, it's only a 90 degree angle or so at the point so you won't lose much thread. Try a long ratchet strap going under the car to pull the screen down. |

Insert a tapered pin punch or tapered centre punch in to the other hole and this will align the hole enouigh for you to get the bolt in. Don't ask me why I know. |

That has to be done for the pointed bolts as well, BTW. |

I also used Iain's method and had no problems getting the bolt in - I used normal bolts with no tapers |

one huge c clamp on foot of side post and other under fender opening by door ,all protected by rags and the job was done in 45 minutes. I then removed the door panels had to adjust the doors vent windows and modified the seals with a razor to fit without pressing on the side posts and putting pressure on the screen. I could not move the screen forward to do the adjustment . It seems to be fine but we will see when I drive it,thanks for all the help. Doug |
