MG MGB Technical - Wiper motor change - early to late

Dear all;

I have a 67 Mark 1 GT which is still positive earth. Can I change the existing "square" motor (which fried itself earlier this week) to the later 2-speed "round" type without too much hassle?

Cheers

You will need the later complex switch and wiring as well if you want it to park automatically, see http://www.mgb-stuff.org.uk/wn_electrics.htm and click on 'Wipers'.

Only one more cable and one three positions switch but what comfort!

Comfort? I've very rarely had to use the fast speed, but use the Smartscreen http://www.smart-screen.co.uk/ more often than I use the slower speed. Originally bought for my daily driver V8, I found it so useful I bought one for my 'summer-use' roadster as well, which being 'UK summer use' and organised runs as wet as often as they are dry. Continuously variable, I found the 4-position delay on an 89 Celica less useful, and the single-speed delay on my 2004 ZS even more useless, I'm thinking of putting one on that as well. No connection with the supplier, blah blah blah.

Paul,

You are lucky in UK because it's always raining as previously and still plenty bear at pub every night. Now here in french south est area we experience more and more often very strong stormy rains that make quite mandatory a high speed wiper to clear screen. Add to this the speed down to 60KM/H ( 40 MPH ) to make ride safer in such conditions.
Rgds.

Charlie.

As Paul can clarify, some of the 67 GT's had a single speed round wiper motor. I have one of these from my 67 that I replaced with a 2 speed newer unit. Took a little bit of work, but with instructions from Paul, I got it wired up to the three position switch. It works just great.

I am now looking at the intermittant unit that Paul listed.
