MG MGB Technical - Wire harness covering

With the engine and gearbox out I have tidied up the engine bay. The wiring harness under the bonnet was in a bit of a mess. Much of the original covering is damaged and I would like to smarten it. I am not looking for perfection and do not mind if it is not as original. I have tried some black electricians type tape, but it does not stick to the wiring very well. Can someone suggest a suitable alternative. Thanks.

Try the loom tape supplied from people like www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu. They have several varieties.

Personnaly I replaced the electrician tape type by the white plastic one on the attached picture. Not so original but much more convenient to add wires, diagnose, and preserve wires from damages.

There is also plastic split conduit that comes in various lengths. It is found on most new cars and can be purchased at most local auto supply stores. RAY

Try googling "braided sleeving". I worked a lot in television and needed to organize bundles of coax and AC power cables. It was ideal, durable, looked good and made life a lot easier. It's even available with full length velcro closure so you can open it at any point to inspect or reroute some of the wires. Most of the time it comes in black, but I've seen various colors. It's expandable (like those chinese handcuffs worked when we were kids) so you should get a neat installation.

A spiral wrap covering is available from Autosparks , Just Google to find them. Easy and neat to fit looks good too

I also used spiral wrap.

I was trying to come close to the cloth covering on my 67. There are some cloth wraps that come close, but for most of mine, I did what Rick recommended. The braided sleeve material worked well. You can use larger sizes for the big parts and smaller for the two branches. You can glue the small into the large. Does not have the appearance of the cloth, but works well.

Self adhesive tape tends to shrink over time, splitting, getting gluey on the outside, and distorting the harness. Proper harness tape is non-adhesive and doesn't suffer from any of those things. Overlap by about half and finish with a spot of adhesive on the free end, or you can loop it through in a neat knot.
