MG MGB Technical - Zenith Stromberg auto choke gasket
Just finished rebuilding choke on my Zenith Carb. Upon reassembly is sealant used on the gasket between the choke and carb? |

If the two halves being joined by the gasket contain coolant then I'd say yes. If not then I can't see it being needed. But in my exploded drawing I can't see a gasket, just a sealing ring between what looks like the water jacket and one side of the heat mass, presumably for the coolant. |

Thanks Paul, I should have mentioned I removed the coolant jacket and am using a manual choke. Just not sure about reattaching the choke assembly with sealant. |

Can't see any need, then. |

Unfortunately after reassembly the car won't start. I know the choke mechanism is working correctly and gas flow to the carb is good as I checked both. I replaced a cracked manifold a few weeks ago with another original and reinstalled the carb, choke was the last step before firing it up. Ran perfectly before, not sure about about this. |

Check everything from first principles i.e. plugs smelling strongly of fuel if not wet after a period of cranking with no start, spark to each plug, and in the right order counting from No.1 at TDC on its compression stroke. |
