MG MGF Technical - 2 screws and non moving disc

Any one know how to get those 2 stubbon front brake disc retaining screws out? I'm just about to drill them out, coz I've been getting nowhere for 2hours!
Terry

The best way is with an impact driver if the cross heads are still Ok and not chewed up.
Otherwise its out with the drill.
Steve White

Cheers Steve, I'm off to my local car shop to attempt purchase of said impact driver, 2 hours of geordie cursing has got me nowhere!
Terry

Ive run around with no screws on the front discs for years. They broke up when I attempted to change the first set of discs, and now I am on my 3rd set.

Bashing the old discs off with A big lump hammer is the only way once the screws are removed (either intact or not) Turn Bash Turn Bash, it works!

The huge forces generated by the 4 wheel bolts make up for any little force that the two original screws would offer up, and soon enough the new discs will corrode nice and solidly into place.
Neil

If you do manage to get them out with the impact hammer which do seem to work very well its probally worth putting a bit of copper slip behind the screws that go back in. And try not to tighten those screws to much either.
Tony L

Drill the heads off! They are not necessary but once the disc is off, it may be possible to remove the remains of the scrwes with a Mole wrench.

Then be prepared to slug it out with a big hammer to get the discs off.
Brian

Terry, you should have asked Santa for some stainless steel screws as well, save the aggro next time ;-))

Currently I'm stuck at the big hammer stage. Its getting boring now and blisters are forming.

Remember that it's an interference fit and that you have to turn the wheel by 1/4 each time you thump it !! :-)

I forgot... and the air turned blue!!!

All sorted now. I bought a bigger hammer
:-)
Russell Parslow

It's actually not designed as an interference fit (wherein the hole in the disc is smaller than the locating shoulder that the disc fits onto). Rather, corrosion has "made" it an interference fit!
Glad you got it sorted and also glad that we do not have the same issues here downunder.

Thanks for all your advice, yep the screws came out thanks to an 8mm drill bit the discs came off with a gentle tap from a copper faced mallet ( I could not find one of these so they got the geordie handshake with a 7ib club hammer)they eventually came off admist blue air. All is now well and the new 1166's and discs plus new dot5 have really improved things.
Is the fitting of B&G's servo bracket worth while?
