MG MGF Technical - 4 digit emergency key access code

Does anyone know who can supply me with my code i have broken my only key fob and i need the code to start the car (and get a new fob sorted). Is there any number for MG or the like who would know my code.

Thanks,

Your MG Dealer should be able to sort you out from the chassis number of the vehicle but you will probably have to provide proof of ownership first, i doubt they will do it over the phone though.

Nik ,
You should have this in your service book unless the cards have been removed.

sadly my service poertfolio is a replacement and the cards in the back are both blank.I have been looking in the archives and there is a post that suggests the code is inside the key fob and there are several numbers none of which seem the obvious four digit one ? does anyone know where abouts inside the fob i am looking ?

Nik, I believe the idea of the code being inside the fob was bull. There are a couple of part numbers. My dealer got my code online via my VIN. NOTE that at some stage the codes held by MGR were incorrect and 2 of the digits needed to be incremented by 1. Can't remember which digit but it is in the archive somewhere.

Good luck.

Nik,
Your best bet now is to go to your nearest MG/R dealer with all your docs. and get a replacement fob.

I believe your local MG-R dealer can look up your car's info. from the MG-R database. This contains all the info on the cars as they left the factory. Then, with that four digit code, you use your key in the driver's door lock turning it fully and returning it to the central position the number of times in each direction in the code sequence. The car's handbook should give 'how to' info.

Your local dealer can get the info from MGR OR they can look it up by attaching a Testbook computer to your car. They will probably want to charge you for the work! Far cheaper than buying a new set of fobs and having them setup for your car.

Th key fob idea comes from a newly supplied car when you get the key with a knock out plate that has the four digit number on it - or was that just very early *F*s?
