MG MGF Technical - 4 Nipples!

Wow! Thats all I can say! I have just had them fitted and it is incredible! The feel and poise of the car is just so much better, taking corners have got better!(Not that I thought they could be anyway!) Should have had it done ages ago!

PS; Rob,
Just waiting for my sprint licience to come through,Farnborough meet with any luck!

Terrific news Duncan. Hopefully see you there (Eelmore?) ! :o)

When is the sprint at farnborough, I might come and watch as only live up the road?

I take it that this mod makes all 4 spheres independant ?

If so and me being thick how does this improve the handling ? Assuming that it does, does it not take away from the braking benifit that you get from front to back connection ?

Ahhh

Another F'er joins the "4 nipple scaramanga club"

Makes hell of a difference doesnt it Duncan!

Enjoy!

Scaramanga only had three...
Bond

yes and look what happened to him!

If he had four James B would have been in real trouble!!!! LOL

Spring behavior gets stiffened, is it ?
Thats cause the front spheres can't push fluid back to the rear, or reverse.

I'd like to try before I do this mod :)
Still please with reduced 'nick-behavior' founded by Sir Moulton and the MGF comfortable ride quality on the long home rides at weekends.

Hi all,
there are small hydraulic (sp?) valves made in solid alu with screw and needle adjustment from fully open to fully closed used in the industry. These can cope with the pressure and have the benefit of either be left fully open = suspension as normal or tested in different settings all the way to fully closed. Placed at each long side of the car where the natural joint is they are a bit akward to adjust from the outside but once the suitable setting found can be forgotten.Adapters are needed but can usually be found in the same place as buying the valves. Be sure to get the ones with equal two ways restricted flow only. There are also similare types with balls and springs that are to be avoided for this specific use! KISS = keep it simple ,stupid ;)

I also wondered about the effectiveness of separating the hydragas spheres, as it does seem to negate the front to rear function of the hydragas.

Very interesting mod, Carl.

The MGF Trophy uses a fixed flow restrictor in the fore-aft connector as standard - but I like Carl's idea of an adjustable restrictor (so long as it is easy to balance both sides).

Another idea would be to have a electro-mechanical restrictor, so you could disconnect the hydragas spheres at a flick of a switch :o)

Is disconnecting your hydragas spheres a good idea? The answer to that depends on your preference and the type of driving you do.

Hard driven cars, it could be argued, SHOULD have the hydragas disconnected - as a weakness of hydragas is pitch under acceleration and deceleration (fluid moves from the compressing sphere, accentuating the pitch angle).

On a road car, the hydragas connection should be left in place, because this connection is pivotal to the way that the suspension functions, dampening fore-aft pitching bounce that plagues short wheel base cars. The connection also promotes roll stiffness, and also increases the ability of the suspension to keep a wheel in contact with the road, improving traction.

Disconnect your hydragas spheres by all means, but do so with open eyes, and be aware of the compromises you'll be making...

For Duncan and Stu, and the type of performance driving they are keen on, this mod is right up their street! :o)
