MG MGF Technical - 52mm TB
Hi, Is it worth putting a 52mm TB onto a plastic inlet some say its not worth it? is that true? Andy. |

Andy, I assume that by "plastic inlet" you mean the standard 1.8mpi inlet manifold. Most of the people I know have this setup and only heard good comments. Never seen a dyno though. But throttle response is IMO better. cheers, david |

Yes its the std 1.8 inlet manifold (plastic) so it is worth it then? |

For me it was. |

payed 30 EUR for GM TB from breakers. And yes, it was worth it, including huge DIY fun. http://www.mgfcar.de/throttle/dk_cp_6425.jpg :) |

DVA's K05 kit - well done Vic! You might want to chat to Kingsley - he's the only other F owner I know with this kit. Are you fitting it yourself? Dave |

wooo scary stuff |

Andy - I've done exactly as you have: fitted a 52mm TB onto a standard MPi plenum - and have RR the result! Conclusion? Gained 1 bhp. Perhaps 2-3 lb.ft else where in the rev range. Nothing to get excited about. But the throttle response is much better (especially from small throttle openings - thank the larger choke/ butterfly valve size for this: any movement is going to result in a larger opening compared to a 48mm TB) - and probably worth it for that 'feature' alone :o) Must get round to posting that RR curve onto the website sometime...! |
