MG MGF Technical - ABS on my MGF?

Hi all,

I was wondering how I can tell if I have ABS on my Y reg (2001) MGF.

Thanks for any advice

Look under the bonnet - on the drivers side there should be the ABS unit - square box with a number of hydraulic pipes coming out of it.

No ABS and there is just a shelf BUT I thought by 2001 all MGFs were ABS.
Ted Newman

All VVCs had ABS - and I think that you're right Ted, MY2000 cars from around that time came equipped with ABS...

ABS control unit as Ted says is the easiest tell-tale: located to the left of the spare wheel - looks like this: http://mgf.ultimatemg.com/group1/facts_and_figures/mpi_v_vvc_images/abs.gif

On the MY2000, the VVC and Steptronic came with ABS but was an Option on the MPi according to the Brochures with my car buy.
As Ted advises, the block and pipes are the tell-tale but also the ABS light showing Test with Ignition switch on.
Was it 2002 or 2003 when ABS became a requirement on new EU cars ??

Thanks everyone. It appears that my "F" was first registered on March 2001, but doesn't have ABS, so it must still have been an optional extra.

Trophy 160's did not come with ABS, it was an extra offered later, as my wash bucket & sponge sits nicely on the shelf :-)

MPi registered September 2001 - no ABS! According to the VIN the car was produced in July / August of that year so it looks like ABS was an optional extra for most of 2001 on the MPi.

Cheers, Bill.
