MG MGF Technical - Adhesive For The Roof

Hi all,

I've just bought my first F (well, about a month ago now) and I've noticed that the roof has become seperated from the middle of the 3 roof supports. At first I wasn't sure if it was meant to be attached, but on closer inspection I see a glue line along there.

Now, my question is - too re-attach the roof to the central support, is there some sort of special glue I need to use? Will certain adhesives damage the roof etc?

Thought I'd check on here before I stick something on there that will eat a hole in my roof.

This cropped up a few weeks ago. Question was asked by Phil The Miner, although I don't know if he got an answer. Try the Archive first. Phil may read this and get back with the right product.

Hi there

I have had the same problem and it is easily fixed. Use a contact glue of a jell style - it is thicker and less likely to run. Prop up the roof with a thin piece of timber or plastic so that you can apply the glue to both surfaces. Then allow to dry before bringing the surfaces together. DO make sure that you cover the seats as this stuff will make a hell of a mess of your seats if it drips on to them.

Hi Mr. P hope you n Mrs P are keeping well.
Unfortunately I never got a reply or recommendation for a suitable adhesive to use for the hood so am unable to offer any further advice. If I do I'll be sure to post on here.

Do a search for Dunlop Thixofix,this a a contact adhesive non drip,a bit like non runny honey.

I saw a trimmer using this product some years ago on a soft top.

Yes we'll both be down at Pencelli from Fri thru Sun nights incl. & also booked in on the Pendine Dash too.
Will hopefully be at Silverstone too but that's going to be very lastminute.com decision.

Hello, I asked this a few weeks ago too. I got a reply, so do a search for my recent posts, so i totally cant remember what the remedy was. Im not driving my F at moment cos of the battle scar :(
