MG MGF Technical - Advice on door gaps.

My drivers door gap is a bit proud when the door is closed compared to the passenger side. Can this be easily adjusted by slackening the two bolts in the door jam staple? I don’t want to slacken them just in case a nut drops off the other end! Any advice would be welcome, ta.
Rosie

No worries about nuts falling off (er, did I just say what I think I said? Anyway...) - they're captive nuts.

However, no, adjusting the door lock catch won't give the desired effect - the adjustment you'll need is at the door hinges. This type of body alignment is tricky to get right, so unless you're prepared to spend plenty of time fiddling (or get lucky first time round), it may be better to get someone experienced to do this for you.

Good luck!

Thanks Rob, The door is only proud at the non-hinge end, in fact I can push the door closed further to reduce the gap, so I assumed that moving the catch staple further in would tighten up this gap. The hinge end of the door fits fine.
Rosie

Okay, I understand a little better now! Is the door too high, or is it a case of the door not being flush with the rear wing?

If the latter, then you are right in your original post: there is some adjustment on the B-post catch. :o)
Rob Bell

That's right.
However, please bear in mind you will change the fitment of the door windows in relation to the hood seals !

My advise would be to mark the catch location with a felt pen before you loosen the Torx 40 bolts for easier re-alignment.

Had this with my current car.
I think the upper pics explain the problem with adjustment.

Rosie,
Like your door ,
I'm a bit proud of my MGF.
Just enjoy it, don't worry about it.
