MG MGF Technical - Air bag blank
Not sure this is very technical but how is the air bag blank held in place? Everytime I accelerate from standing still the Bloody thing launches itself into the passenger seat. |

little plastic clips. |

Care to elaborate? How many, how easy to fit |

I have an airbag fitted. donŽt know whether the way of retention is anty different. 1. open glove box compartment 2. remove (I think) 4 screws at each corner I believe 3. detach the glove box light socket 4. remove the plastic thingy which hold the glove box in place ( see left hand side) 5. take it out and bend yourself backwards into the footwell with a flashlight, youŽll see the 4 screws. All of the above for a car equiped with air bag. I suppose the blank is attached the same way, good luck, david |

When my air bag blank flies out, there are two metal brackets, one each side, with two holes in each. However the AB blank is just a bit of plastic with no way of holding it in place. I am sure there is something missing, but I don't know what!!! |

Go to the dealer and get the blank up on the parts screen, the clips will be obvious. There are no screws (as you know!) |

Air bag blank is secured on two moulded plastic 'feet', which are part of the blank, and a pair of metal clips. Picture: >> http://www.sfforever.co.uk/pictures/mainpage_29/id919.jpg << The metal clips are a top hat section, with metal prongs to grip the plastic lip on the back of the blank. Inspect the lip on the back of the blank and you should find two pairs of scrapes int he plastic where the clips have pulled loose. I suspect that someone has removed the blank in the past and the clips, rather than coming of with the blank, have popped off inside the dash somewhere, indeed if you drop the glovebox out i reckon you will probably find them. :-) HTH SF |
