MG MGF Technical - Air conditioning
Since putting in the Emerald M3D, my air conditioning hasn't worked (and i'm starting to wish it did)! I gess the mems must deal with this some how, i think in order to cut out over a certain rpm? Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the aircon? I think it uses pin 19 on mems, but don't know what the conditions for switching it are, or if it the ecu's envolvement can by bypassed (is this a good idea), or if i need some new procedures/conditions writing into the m3d to use it. Cheers |

Follow the links bellow, and you will find the wirring diagram of air con http://www.mgfcar.de/schedules/sb21.jpg http://www.mgfcar.de/schedules/sb22.jpg |

Kingsey, I'm sure they could reprogram the change light to light up at high load sites, then you could use this wire to trigger the aircon (or just have it on all the time, and switch it off by hand if you're racing) Will |

Was just checking that pin 19 is supposed to be on all the time other than in an ecu cut out situation. if this is the case i can set the shift light to be on all the time and use the switch, I'll talk to emerald as i'm sure there'll be some liz owners with the same problem. |

Arn't you an ex vvc? the dig looks like the vvc pin 19 Blue/green goes to the tyrnary switch, and then on to ground, so I wouldn't connect +ve to that! On the MPi it looks like it's connected to Blue/Black, which looks to be the drain for the compressor cluch, so it actually needs pulling to earth (you should see 12v at the wire with the engine running |

Hasn't Edgar in HK got an Emerald M3D on his Liz? I'm almost certain that he has (DVA head) - and I presume that he must still have aircon on his car - so I presume that Carl must be aware of a fix for this problem... How does MEMS pin 19 know if the engine is under high load BTW? Is this purely rpm related, or rpm/ throttle position determined? Just wondered - because if the former, it'd make for a cheap shift light "switch" using the standard MEMS! ;o) |

>does MEMS ... know if the engine is under high load ... ? High load is full(ish) throttle, irrespective of RPM (if you think about it), so not really suitable for a change lamp. |
Will Munns |
You're right - no use for a shift light... but a "high load" indicator might be useful for something. Will make a mental note for future reference ;o) |
Rob Bell |
I suppose it's still a shift light, just a shift down light! |
Will Munns |
Ha! Who needs one of those? ;o) |

Kingsley leave windows and windstop down and... just go faster.....cos u can!!! LOL Stu |

How old is the car? Maybe it needs to be regassed or there is a condensor leak. The system will failsafe in these circumstances and will shut down. Tony |

It's a 98R, MPi if i remember from the manual pin 19 will cut at high load (throttle position) and high RPM. Will, that's what i thought 12v with engine running. Stu, this is my favored technique, but stuck in traffic it's not much good! Tony, didn't think of this, but after fiddling with the ECU it'll be my next course of action. If it's any additional use the aircon light is still on. |
Kingsley |
Ok that didn't work. Set the rev limiter to 2k (lowest it goes) now the air con is on all the time when reving over 2k revs, wether you turn it on or not :( any other options? |
Kingsley |
sorry not the rev limiter, the change up light :( (must get more sleep) |
Kingsley |
>>any other options?<< A manual switch Kingsley? Did you get to chat to the Emerald boys in the end - and what did they say? |
Rob Bell |
Rob, Gonna ring them today, there must be an 'official' solution. |
