MG MGF Technical - Air Conditioning

I know this was a somewhat low volume add on, but does anyone have a TF with air conditioning? If so, do you get any problems with it?

My wife's 2005 TF160 has air con fitted, and when it's in use, the part of the unit that protrudes into the passenger footwell creates large amounts of condensation that drip into the footwell and soak the carpet. Anyone with a similar experience, and did you get it fixed?

There should be a drip tray with run off to take the moisture outside - I do not know the TFs but that is the norm and it could be that a pipe is missing or blocked?

Hello Ted

The problem, as far as I can see, is that the condensation is forming on the outside of the plastic casing for the aircon unit, and then dripping into the footwell. It's only when you lift the carpet you realise just how much water is coming off the thing. Trouble is, it's a useful add on when you're in heavy traffic and it's hot outside, so I'd like for it to work without needing to put a bucket under it!

My F has a/c and is very useful as you state.
My car had the same problem and the cure is simple. Get your head deep into the footwell, and with a small torch you will see a small rubber drain tube. It will be blocked most likely.
It is designed to carry water from the evaporator to the underside of the car.
Remove the pipe and clean it in hot soapy water. I actually cut a small section of the pipe and opened up the end to aid water draining.
Get the carpet lifted up and the underlay and dry with a pwerful hairdryer to avoid any future rust areas on the floor.

Hello Tony

Thanks for that. Looks like my weekend work programme is sorted ;-))

A hairdryer ??
I first had to wring the water out like a bath sponge.
With Aircon, after it has been On and the car parked, always look under the passenger's footwell for the tell-tale puddle of clean water.
No water - Time to clean the pipe.

Thanks everyone for their help. Yes, the condensation drain pipe was blocked, and several pints of water removed from footwell - well it seemed like that much!! Several hours of hairdyer application and the carpet's dry, so lets hope the problem's now fixed. There's a small notch now cut in the end so hopefully it won't block again soon ...
