MG MGF Technical - ait sensor

hi i need to find the air intake temp sensor on my mgf could anyone help please

It's on the inlet manifold, around no.4 cylinder, usually green coloured.

The majority of people that go looking for their IAT sensor are planning to fit a 'chip' that promises all sorts of power gains. They would be well advised to have a look at this page in Rob Bell's site first - http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/engines/dodgy_stuff/index.htm

I hope he didn't waste cash on this one

(LOL)
Dieter

Good find Dieter 8-) I especially like the bit where the seller admits that fitting one of his other products without fitting this one is pretty much guaranteed to destroy the engine, a fact that he forgets to mention in the sales pitch for the other product - nice!!

Your choice ultimately, but bear in mind two things -

1. The only possible way that a chip can appear to improve fuel economy is by running a leaner mix of fuel to air. That results in higher cylinder temperatures, and will at best shorten the lifespan of the engine, at worst cause a piston to crack and disintegrate, potentially throwing a conrod through the side of the engine. Bear in mind how close the fuel tank is to the engine in the F. And how close you sit to the fuel tank.

2. Any device that 'manages' ignition timing has the potential, if it advances the ignition more than the engine was designed for, to cause the catastrophic destruction of the engine, again potentially throwing conrods out of the engine block. A steel conrod is going to exit through the side of the alloy block of the K Series engine much more easily than engines with heavy cast iron blocks.

If you're ever wondering why Motorola, the multi-billion dollar manufacturer of the ECU fitted to the MGF, haven't incorporated the "Fuel Saver" technology into their ECUs, those are the reasons. Those chips have been around for many years, and may appear to offer a short term advantage (although claims of 15 or 18% are frankly ludicrous) and the sellers rely on the fact that they'll be long gone with the buyers' money before the first customer either has to fit a new engine or worse, expires in a fireball.
